Queries on software

  1. Open Excel. Open the file Software.xls. Save it on your drive with the name SoftwareYourInitals
  2. Open Access.   Create a New Blank database and save it on your drive.  Call the database SoftwareYourInitials, e.g. Pam Miller's database would be SoftwarePM. 
  3. Import the file SoftwareYourIntials.xls (File / Get External Data / Import / (Change File of type to Microsoft Excel) and follow the Wizard.  Your imported database should have 29 records. 
  4. Make sure the table in the database SoftwareYourInitials is called SoftwareYourInitials.
  5. Print the table.  Make sure the table fits in ONE page.  Submit the printed table with the query answers to the questions below.
  6. Do the following queries based on the database. Do not bother to save the queries.   Submit the answers on foolscap paper or as a word processed document.  Next to each answer indicate the criteria used to find the answer to the query.  No criteria, no mark.

  3. How many programs are operating system programs?
  4. How many programs cost more than R1000?
  5. How many programs cost more than R500?
  6. How many programs are supplied by WorkGroup?
