During October 2001 the children were given a project on road safety, and a visit from traffic officers from the Cape Town traffic department followed. The traffic officers arrived on their motorcycles and in their patrol cars with sirens sounding and lights flashing -  much to the children's delight. Some of the children who were allowed out of the wards were taken by the traffic officers on a short ride within the hospital grounds on the motor cycles and in the patrol cars. Later the traffic officers visited the children in the wards and handed out books and small gifts. The children gained much from the visit.
