Although the focus was on the hospital schools conference, the teachers and learners were kept very busy with other events during 2003.  Several schools visited the hospital.  The Grade 1 classes from Golden Grove Primary and the Grade 5 class from Somerset House Preparatory brought much needed teaching aids for the school as well as gifts for the children.

A large donation of books was given to the school from Pearson Education South Africa.  These books were shared with the other hospital schools.  Pearson Education South Africa has supported the school in the past with donations of books and it is greatly appreciated.

Six education students from the Cape College of Education spent time at the school as part of their practical assessment.  They were introduced to another environment of teaching children and learnt much during their stay.  A visiting education lecturer from the Netherlands also visited the school and is planning a return visit during 2004.

The teachers attended several in-service training courses during the year.  The course for the Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS) provided opportunities for better understanding of the RNCS.  These courses took place during the July and December holidays.

The Trust of the Children's Hospital raises funds for the hospital.  Although none of these funds come to the school, the Trust often asks the school to provide children's artwork to give to companies and individuals as 'thank you' gifts or they use the art to raise funds.  This year Engen donated a substantial amount of money to the hospital.  The Trust sent them some of the children's art.  They were so impressed with the paintings and drawings that it was decided to make a desk calendar for 2004 using the children's art.

René was invited by the different Quilters' Guilds to give a talk about the school at one of their quarterly meetings.  The quilters decided to make the school one of their projects for 2004.  They will provide quilts for the children and wallhangings for the hospital.
