Internet exercise 1 - 30 marks
Online learners print the question paper, disconnect from the Internet,
think about the correct answers and then submit as an email. Onsite learners do it on
foolscap paper as homework.
Section A - 1 mark each - 10 marks
- What do the letters FAQ stand for?
- What element of the Internet allows a person to chat interactively with someone else?
- What is a flame?
- What is an ISP?
- What is e-mail?
- What is the goal of FTP?
- What is the Internet?
- What must first be verified before your ISP can link you to the Internet?
- Who is in control of the Internet?
- With which letters do all addresses of web pages begin?
Section B - 2 marks each - 20 marks
- Describe two things that are considered bad manners on the Internet.
- Distinguish between a web page and a web site. Give examples to help explain the
difference.
- Suppose someone sends you e-mail when your computer is switched off and disconnected.
Will the e-mail be lost? Explain briefly.
- What are smileys or emoticons? Give examples of them.
- What are Ananzi and Aardvark and what is their function?
- What does a person need to access the Internet?
- What does TCP/IP stand for and to what does it refer?
- What does URL stand for and to what does it refer?
- What is the software called that people need to have to be able to get information off
the Internet? Name another example, except Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- Why is it important to use a local ISP?
