Examination on Operating systems (25) and Web design (20) - marks - LANs, WANs and intranets

Only do what is required in the questions. Do the tasks in the order given. If you have a problem doing Section 1 call for help but realise that each call is equal to minus 5 of the total for that section. Section 1 must be done properly in order for Section 2 to link and function.

The work will be marked on your computer. There is no need for disks or printing.

Section 1 - Operating system and general computer use - 25 marks

Create a folder (directory) called OCTOBER on your G drive.
Extract the file lan.htm sent to you as an email attachment. Store in the OCTOBER folder.
Copy the following files from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM folder to your own OCTOBER folder:
1. lanintra.htm
2. lanpur.htm
3. localare.htm
4. network.bmp
5. phys.htm
6. ser.htm
7. wan1.htm
8. wanhard.htm
Rename the following files in your OCTOBER folder:
1. phys.htm - rename it wanphys.htm
2. ser.htm - rename it wanser.htm
Find the following files in the H Shared drive CSSG folder and copy into your own OCTOBER folder:
1. htm file created at 7.39 on 1999/09/24. Rename it wanuse.htm
2. htm file which contains the text ' no international standards for tariffs '. Rename the file waninter.htm
Change the file format of network.bmp to network.gif. Use any suitable package.
Create an animated banner for use on the web with the words ' International networks '. Call the file waninter with the correct extension. Save in your directory OCTOBER for use later. Use any suitable package.
At the end of this section you should have the following 12 files in your OCTOBER folder:
1. lan.htm - extracted from an email attachment
2. lanintra.htm - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM
3. lanpur.htm - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM
4. localare.htm - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM
5. network.gif - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM and file type changed
6. wan1.htm - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM
7. wanhard.htm - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM
8. waninter …(animated banner graphic) with an extension - created by you
9. waninter.htm - copied from the H Shared drive CSSG folder and renamed
10. wanphys.htm - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM and renamed
11. wanser.htm - copied from the H Shared drive WEBEXAM and renamed
12. wanuse.htm - copied from the H Shared drive CSSG folder and renamed

If you have a problem doing Section 1 call for help but accept that each call is equal to minus 5 of the total for that section of 25.
