Database and Spreadsheets Practical examination - 40 marks


Complete on foolscap or as an email, and submit to your teacher. It should not take more than 30 minutes. During the test you may ask for help but it costs 5 marks for each request.

Database - Access

Open the program Access. Open the file lib.mdb. Answer the following questions based on that database.
  1. How many books/titles/records are in the database?
  2. How many fields are in the database?
  3. What is the author and title of the first book if the database is arranged according to Author in ascending alphabetical order?
  4. What is the author and title of the first book if the database is arranged according to Author in descending alphabetical order?
  5. What is the author and title of the first book if the database is arranged according to Title in ascending alphabetical order?
  6. What is the author and title of the first book if the database is arranged according to Title in descending alphabetical order?
  7. What is the author and title of the first book if the database is arranged according to Dewey1 in descending alphabetical order?
  8. The book Mailships of the Union Castle Line was written by CJ Harris and BD Ingpen (ex Pinelands High School principal). Is this book in the database?
  9. The book Book education lessons / Boekopvoedinglesse was written by Pamela Miller (Pinelands High School Computer Studies SG teacher). Is this book in the database?

Spreadsheets - Excel

Open the program Excel. Open the file 9911sepw.xls. Answer the following questions based on that spreadsheet.

  24. For no marks - What comment is found next to your name?
  25. For no mark - Go to the web page for Grade 11 in 1999, and Make up of final year mark. Do the marks on this sheet count towards the final year mark?
