Fully answer each question.
  1. When I use the World Wide Web it is so slow.  Is there a time when I should not use it?  What can I do to make downloading of pages quicker?
  2. Often when I want to login in our networked computer centre I have trouble logging in.  I know that my password is correct.  The centre administrator fiddles with the back of the CPU and does something to permit me to log in.  What can I do to help myself in such situations?
  3. I took some wonderful holiday photographs and want to send copies of them to the people in New Zealand with whom I spent my holiday.  I could send the photographs to them by normal postage but it is too slow and expensive.  What is a cheap and quick way to send photographs to people far away?
  4. I pressed Print by mistake and wasted a great deal of paper printing rubbish.  What can I do, if and when I press Print by mistake, and want to stop 'mistake' printing.

Question 7 - Integrated question - 20 marks

  1. Scenario 1: Panel beaters in Montague Gardens

    A teacher had a car accident in December last year. When she reported it to the police she found a brochure on the charge office desk advertising the services of Cape Panelbeaters in Montague Gardens. She took her car to those panelbeaters and had a long talk to the owner, Mr Gropper.

    1. What well-known computer program could have been used to create the brochure? (1)
    2. Mr Gropper said that he intended installing … so that owners would be able to see, via the Internet, how their cars were being repaired. What did he intend installing? (1)
    3. These panelbeaters have email. What could their email address be if they had an account with Mweb? (2)
    4. The panelbeaters have a web site. What could their URL be? Give it in full. (2)
    5. What software would you need to access the Cape Panelbeaters' web site? Give the type of software and the name of an application, e.g. a word processor and MSWord. (2)

  2. Scenario 2: Panel beaters in Montague Gardens

    In the front office of the panelbeaters she saw an interesting situation . A claims assessor from Santam had brought his 'office' to the panelbeaters' office. He had a cell phone, computer and portable printer. He could carry it all in a bag in one hand!

    1. What kind of computer did he have? - desktop, mainframe or notebook. (1)
    2. What type of computer application works out costs of repairs? - database, desktop publisher, spreadsheet or word processor. (1)
    3. A form on the desk had the title " e-claim ". What does this title mean? (1)
    4. The keyboard was tiny and his hands were big. Describe two ways in which he could enter information. (2)
    5. The assessor could walk around the panelshop, take photographs of the damaged cars with his computer and send the pictures to head office in minutes. Describe how this was done. (2)
