Election database - Another queries Test (27 marks)

Copy the database electionaccesstest.mdb from the shared drive / CSSG or copy and unzip the file electionaccesstest.zip,  to your own folder.  Rename the file YourInitialsElectionAccessTest.mdb.  Write the answers neatly on foolscap paper.  Perform the following queries based on the fictitious data.  Save each query by number and subject of the query.  Do the work in the order given.  When you have completed the last question copy the file to the directory Pupils / Projects / Term 1 or send as am email attachment to your teacher.

A.  Simple queries (9 marks)

  1. How many people live in the suburb of  Kensington? (1)
  2. How many people have the surname of Williams?  (1)
  3. How many people with the surname Samaai live in Kensington?  (1)
  4. How many people have the letters/word Nico anywhere in their first names?  (1)
  5. How many people with the words Van anywhere in their surname OR live in Kensington or Windermere?  (1)
  6. What is the most common surname?  How many of them are there?  (2)
  7. How many suburbs are found in this ward? Which suburb has the lowest number of voters?   (2)

B.  ID Numbers are known to begin with the numbers of the year in which a person is born (6 marks)

  1. How many people were born in 1949?   (1)
  2. How many people were born in January 1950?  (1)
  3. How many people were born before or in 1935?  (1)
  4. How many people were born in or after 1985?  (1)
  5. How many people were born in 1940-something and live in Parow North?  (1)
  6. How many people were born in 1950 or live in Maitland?  (1)

C.  Number of children (6 marks)

  1. How many people have 2 children or less?   (1)
  2. What is the total number of children born to people who live in Windermere?  (1)
  3. How many suburbs have no children born to it / in it?  (1)
  4. What is the maximum number of children born to a person in Kensington?  (1)
  5. Which suburb has the most number of children?   How many of them are there in this suburb?  (2)

D.  Calculation expressions (2 marks)

  1. Join the First Names to the Surnames of all the records.   (The expression to obtain GAVIN LESLIEZUNGU is worth 1 mark.  The expression to obtain GAVIN LESLIE ZUNGU is worth 2 marks.)  Write out the expression clearly.  Save the query for marking.  

E.  Not sure of heading (4 marks)

  1. Based on the table Ward XYZ create a new table called Sellar showing all the details of the people whose surname is Sellar.  How many records are in the new table. (2) 
  2. Delete from the table Ward XYZ the records of the people who live in Wingfield.  How many records are left in the database.  (2)
