| I
went on a tour from Khartoum to the ancient Kushite capital of Meroe, on
the road to Atbara and Port Sudan.
From the road we saw a camel grazing, great excitement for me. |
|
| As
we stopped at the Royal Cemetery of Meroe camels and their owners came
racing over the hill waiting to get a willing tourist.
I was willing and went for a ride amongst the pyramids on a camel, what an awesome experience. The tour guide Nagla eventually succumbed to getting up in the saddle but her clothes were really not suitable. |

Look at the pyramids in the background!

| After I paid the men off they went. Note the complete lack of water and vegetation. | ![]() |
These camels are being fed from bags of food. Camels are bred mainly in Darfur for sale at the Omdurman market for eating in Egypt. |
We stopped at a well to look at how the locals draw water. Camels came running across the dry landscape hoping someone would draw up some water for them. |
